Steps to Find Molarity of a Solution

Follow the simple and easy steps to calculate the molarity of a solution.

  • Check the molar mass, concentration and mass of the substance.
  • Divide the concentration by the molar mass to know the molarity.
  • Multiply the number of moles by the concentration to get the volume of the solution.

What is Molar Concentration?

Molar concentration is an effective way of describing a solute concentration in the solution. Molarity is the total number of moles of solute dissolved in one litre of solution. All moles measurements are applied to find the volume of moles in the solution that is molar concentration.

Concentration is a well-known parameter that works with any chemical substance or reaction. It measures the amount of substance dissolved in a given volume of the solution.

Define Mole | Molarity Formula

The mole is the amount of substance of a system that has as many elementary entities as there are atoms in 0.12 kgs of carbon-12. If a mole is used, the elementary entities should be specified and may be atoms, molecules, electrons, and other particles. Mole is the SI unit for the measurement of the amount of substance.

The molarity of a solution is defined as the total number of moles of solute per litre of solution. It depends on the changes in physical properties of the system and is represented as M. The molarity equation is as follows:

molarity = concentration/molar mass

concentration = number of moles/volume

Example:

Question: A solution was prepared using 15 g of sodium sulphate. The volume of the solution is 125 ml. Calculate the molarity of the given solution of sodium sulphate.

Answer:

Given that

Mass of sodium sulphate = 15 g

The volume of the solution = 125 ml = 0.125 litres

The molecular weight of sodium sulphate = 142

The number of moles of sodium sulphate in the given question is calculated as,

n = mass/molecular weight = 15/142

= 0.106

molarity = number of moles of solute/volume of solution

= 0.106/0.125

= 0.85 M

The molarity of the solution is 0.85 M.

FAQ's on Molarity Calculator

1. How to calculate molarity using a calculator?

You have to give the molar mass, the concentration of the solution to get the molarity and the mass of the substance to find the volume of the chemical solution.

2. What is the concentration calculator?

The concentration calculator tool converts the molarity into percentage concentration by using the molar mass of dissolved substance and density of the solution.

3. What is the definition of molarity?

In chemistry, molarity is the concentration of the solution. The molarity of a chemical solution can be calculated by dividing the number of moles of the solute dissolved in one litre of the solution.

4. What is the molarity of 25% of NaOH?

Molarity = weight of the solute/gram molecular weight

Molecular weight of NaOH = 40

25% NaOH gm in 100 ml solution

Density of water = 1 g/cc

volume = 100 ml

Molarity = (25/40) ÷ (100/1000)

= (25 x 1000)/(40 x 100)

= 6.25 M
